After breakfast, embark on a journey into the prosperous heart of picturesque famous Port Arthur historic site, a compelling and dramatic reminder of Australia’s convict past and the early settlement of the Colony of Van Dieman's Land, now Tasmania. We cross over the Tasman Bridge, the gracious long-span bridge across the Derwent River estuary opened on August 17, 1964. Being the only direct connection between the city centre and Hobart Airport, a drive across the bridge enables you to glance up the beautiful river and down towards the sea. Then we head out on the Tasman Highway over the Pitwater Causeway onto Forestier Peninsula, before being treated with a most magnificent ocean & coastal views from Pirates Bay Lookout before heading to Eaglehawk Neck and a short walk on beautiful Egg Beach, learning about the famous convict DOGLINE. Take a guided walking tour of the historic convict site - Port Arthur, with access to over 30 restored buildings and ruins. See the Penitentiary, a one-time granary and flour mill, the separate prison, the Commandant's House, the church and more. You will also visit the fantastic natural attractions of Tasman Arch & Devils Kitchen. Even a stroll of just an hour or two will bring you to the edge of sheer drops overlooking chasms and surging ocean, off-shore islands, white-sand beaches, and a waterfall that tumbles into the sea. Visit highlights of Tasman National Park. The stars of the 8,312-hectare Tasman National Park are the sea caves, geos, stacks, arches, collapse features and 300-metre high cliffs created by 6,000 years of wave action on the peninsula's sandstone, dolerite and granite. In the scrub and forest beside the trails, wallabies and pademelons feed at dusk and dawn. Sea eagles soar overhead during the day, and at night Tasmanian devils scavenge and bicker. After the historical walk you will be transfered to Canarvon Bay for a cruise and guided tour of the Isle of the Dead, plus a tour of the former boys prison at Point Puer.Day 3 HOBART (B)
After breakfast, experience a short (22 km) scenic drive from Hobart to the stunning Mt. Wellington (half day tour). Mt Wellington offers a spectacular and panoramic backdrop for the city of Hobart. Standing 1,270 metres over Tasmania’s capital city, Mt Wellington is Hobart’s highest peak and the view from the summit is absolutely magnificent and breathtaking. Crowned by alpine vegetation and dusted by snow in winter, Mt Wellington tours will enable you to glimpse over the unfolding panorama of Hobart city, the Derwent River and Hobart’s surrounding suburbs.
